From Conversation to Camera
I went into Palm Springs that day planning to shoot something different, starting with a series on cactus at the Moorten Botanical Garden. On my way out, I came across two sisters from Washington State taking casual photos of each other. They told me they were in town for a cheerleading event and that their mother had sent them out to get some pictures while they were there. They were curious about how I shoot, and when I explained that I focus on portrait work in the streets, the moment shifted. I offered to take a few photos if their mother was okay with it, and they were all in. They mentioned wanting palm trees in the shots, something that felt like Palm Springs, and we built from there. Before continuing, we agreed to meet up with their mother downtown.
What started as a quick interaction turned into a full street session, all happening in real time. When we met their mother downtown, she shared that she had never had photos of her daughters in their uniforms done this way, only traditional team photos. That stuck with me. This gallery reflects that entire experience, unplanned, in the moment, and exactly how it was meant to unfold.
