Between Light and Rhythm

Shot on the campus of Chaffey College, this session leaned into a hip hop-inspired aesthetic with subtle storytelling built into every frame. She showed up in a Poetic Justice shirt, a quiet nod to 2Pac, and brought along a small boombox that added just enough texture without forcing the moment. We let the campus lines, shadows, and open space do their part, keeping things simple but intentional. It wasn’t about recreating a scene. It was about capturing a feeling that sits somewhere between nostalgia and now.

This shoot became more about experimentation than perfection. We played with shadows, pushed colored light into places it normally wouldn’t live, and let the unpredictability guide us. Some frames were clean, others a little raw, but all of it opened the door to new ideas. That’s the process. Every session builds on the last, and days like this remind me that the best work usually starts when you’re willing to try something different.
